A Million Little Things.....

...going wrong. I'm sure that there are some things behind the scenes going right with this move, but there sure seems to be a lot going wrong.

We want to leave this house clean and in good shape. Shawn was out weed wacking and accidently cut the cable from the electric meter to the a/c. No a/c from Sat. until this afternoon. Luckily, they were able to come quick to fix it. Oh, then the phone stopped working. I thought maybe they had the turn off date wrong. Turns out that they hadn't even transfered the service. Now they can't come until Sat. So no phone, but the cell. Oh and the kitchen faucet decided to stop working...it gives barely a trickle. Shawn is going to replace the faucet tomorrow when they come to fix the phone.

We have no one really to help us move. I think it would've been cheaper to rent another pod than 4 trips with trucks and trailer.

With all the scary stuff I have heard about closings, I just hope they both go off without a hitch on Weds.

Last Weekend

It's Saturday and the last weekend in this house. Most of our stuff got packed up and moved last weekend. There are just odds and ends here...it's like camping every day. Everything is a mess! There is no place to put things...just in boxes, but then it all gets dug out again.

Wednesday is the big day...4 days away! Seems like it will never get here, but I am grateful for the weekend to relax a little and finish stuff up. In a little while, I am headed to Sears to get batteries for the garage door openers.

Moving On

There are some changes going on in the neighborhood. Our next door neighbor came over to get our realtor's number today . Her husband is very ill with cancer...not too many more months to live. She is going to sell their house after he dies. They are nice people...older than us, but most our neighbors are. Our neighbor, on the other side, was out power washing his house today. He's talked about moving in the next year or so, too. Our neighbor directly across the street...his house was condemed(junk house). It's rumored he sold his house. I bet it will be torn down and at least 2 houses built in it's place. There have also been 4 new neighbors that have moved into other houses the last year. If we come back even a year later, I'm sure we will not recognize the people living here. A good time to go.

Looking forward to moving into the new neighborhood. We drove through it today on the way back from dropping off the truck. It is a typical subdivision. All the houses are newish. It will be a switch from our big lakeview lot. There are tons of kids...riding bikes and playing in yards. I hope the girls can make some friends in the neighborhood. The next door neighbor has a toddler so maybe Brianna can do some babysitting. I hope Shawn and I meet some couples that we can be friends with. I feel almost as nervous about this as the girls do about going to new schools. We will be so much closer to our neighbor with the smaller yard. I hope we can get along with our neighbors there at least as well as we do now.

Packing Up

Less than 2 weeks until we move. Due to the end of August being the most popular time to move, it is impossible to get a truck for next weekend. So we are going to move in 3 stages. The first was this weekend. We spent 2 days moving stuff up to Shawn's parents. 3 truckloads of stuff. Tuesday night before the move we will load up a small trailer to take to our new house after the closings on Wednesday. Then up to my in-laws on Sat. of Labor Day weekend to get the rest.

My house is almost empty now. The only furniture in here is our mattresses, a loveseat, and our computer desks and chairs. The rooms echo. Not much left to pack up for that Tues. and about a week to do it in. Just the essential can't live without stuff.

A Good Sign?

Our buyer was supposed to talk to the septic guy and our realtor. I haven't heard anything so I am taking it as a good sign. Will call tomorrow just to make sure. Then I can start making plans for the new house and get everything transfered and the kids registered in their new schools.

Holding my breath(sorta) until tomorrow.

Nerves

For the first time, I am really nervous. I am nervous something is going to go wrong. Not the normal wrong but a buyer change their minds wrong.

We were supposed to have our septic inspection done last Tuesday. Well, they couldn't get around to checking until Thursday. When he did it on Thursday, he found some mottling that might indicate that the septic system was leaking. But the weird thing was it was at different levels in different samples and not at all in other samples. So Jim our septic guy thinks that it is because we are lakeshore. There is another house on the block that has the same thing. It is from the fill they used when they build the houses. Some of it is wet.

Okay, Jim is a nice honest guy. He's pumped our septic before. I know his wife and kids from church. He is telling me that he is pretty sure the mottling is from wet fill(it looks all mixed up). He just has to get a guy from the lakeshore board to agree to this. State law says that if they both agree that agreement is good for the life of the system. He can't meet this guy until Monday though....I am finding out this on a cell call Thursday night on the way home from work. Luckily, Shawn and I drove together so we were together for the conversation.

Okay, so I am feeling okay with this. Jim wrote up a note for our Friday deadline. Then our realtor calls Friday afternoon. The buyers' fiance wants to be there when they meet to take more samples. I say "What? They think we are trying to hide something." "yes"
Well we try to get a hold of Jim, but he is out of town for the weekend and he never called back(we left a message).

So now I am nervous that this is all going to go bad. I wonder if our buyers will be so freaked out by the whole septic thing...even if it turns out that it is due to wet lake fill and not the septic system...that they will say forget it. Can they do it if nothing is really wrong. We will lose our escrow in the other house. Do we get to keep theirs? Have I been smart to not register the girls in their new schools yet?

But then I am nervous to move. We are moving into a real family neighborhood...with smaller yards. What if we hate our neighbors or they hate us or hate Krystal? What if the new house is even more work? What if the kids hate their new school? We will be stuck. Was this really the right move?

Inspections

Inspections....... Here's an update:

Furnace - no problems....yea!
Electrical box - 2 electrians say there is no problem. One is my father-in-law, but since he doesn't have a residential license, we hired one. He couldn't find a problem either, but replaced something anyway.
Well - there was some type of bacteria growing in there. Shawn spent a day dumping chlorine down the well and water softener...then flushing it out. It did something weird to kitchen sink and now it looks like we are going to have to replace the faucet in there again. The well lady came again. Hopefully one detox will be enough.
Septic - was supposed to come on Tues. Is coming tomorrow. Hopefully there is nothing wrong.

We have to have faxed everything to our realtor on Friday. I haven't enrolled the kids in there new school yet, because I want to make sure that everything is set for the sale.
